Doncaster 100

On June 2nd 2002, Doncaster celebrated the centenary of public transport in the borough.  The Nova cameras were there to film from the second edition of Buses In Action - more details here - and Omnibus is proud to show a selection of shots here.

Vehicles from across the area came to the town to take part in a road run from Waterdale to the rally site at Hexthorpe Flats.  Preserved and in service Doncaster vehicles took part in free bus services from the former Town Centre terminus at Christ Church.  At 2pm, the first tram journey to Hexthorpe from the Mansion House was re-created by a parade of Doncaster vehicles showing the range of buses which have operated in the town.

A fantastic line-up of Doncaster vehicles.  In the front, Dominator 2498 repainted by First Mainline into the Doncaster Transport livery used just before the formation of SYPTE in 1974.  Behind are 55, 33 and PD2 94.

Two generations of Doncaster single-deckers.

Doncaster PD2 94 made on of its' rare public appearances, showing its' ex-trolleybus Roe body.

See more of the centenary event, plus archive film and a look at various preserved vehicles in Doncaster Remembered - 100 Years of Trams, Trolleys and Buses.

Also celebrating their centenary is Yorkshire Traction, who were represented by Anniversary-liveried Optare Solo.

Ex-Sheffield PD2 1156 and PD3 904 made the journey from Sheffield.
